The 1st Annual Benton County "Out Of The Darkness" Awareness Walk will be held at the Benton Community MS/HS Track & Field Complex located at 600 1st St. Van Horne.Please join the Benton County Suicide Prevention Coalition in our 1st Annual Benton County "Out of the Darkness " awareness walk on  September 10 from 7-9:00 p.m.The 2 mile walk is on a both wheelchair & stroller accessible track.

Hawkeye Community College to Host Cedar Valley Mental Health Summit September 22

Hawkeye Community College will host the annual Cedar Valley Mental Health Summit on Friday, September 22, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. in Tama Hall on Hawkeye’s Main Campus, 1501 E. Orange Rd, Waterloo, Iowa. The theme is Connecting the Whole Body, with sessions focused on physical, mental, and financial health, including Eating Disorders 101, Financial Problems and Mental Health, Pivot Your Health Through Movement, How Mental Illness Can Affect the GI, and Mind-Body Connection: Putting It Together with Purposeful Practice.

Vinton Community Blood Drive - Give a pint, get a pint

The American Red Cross will hold it's Vinton Fall Blood Drive on Thursday , Sept 28th from 12:30--5:30 at the skate center. We all know there have been lots of disasters lately and blood donations dip in the summer.  We need 33 more Vintonites to sign up to up to  completely fill our blood drive. It only takes about an hour, you get snacks, and an ice cream coupon.

Rural Access Hub assists residents with brain health services

The Rural Access Hub (RAH) maintains walk in hours are from 11am to 4 pm Monday thru Friday, however, staff can be utilized outside walk in hours with proper notification. This site offers a wide array of resources for those experiencing brain health concerns of both emergency and non-emergency status.The RAH does not only provided services of the crisis/emergency nature.

New Organization Forms: Benton County Suicide Prevention Coalition (BCSPC)

The Benton County Suicide Prevention Coalition (BCSPC) is a newly formed organization working to become a 501(c)(3). The coalition is comprised of organizations and individuals who have been affected by suicide in some way and have a vision to eliminate suicides in Benton County.According to the CDC, suicide rates decreased 37% from 2008-2018, decreased by another 5% from 2018-2020 but nearly reached peak numbers again in 2021 nationwide.
